GLOBAL: A Brookfield Asset Management-led consortium with Gulf Islamic Investments, Marathon Asset Management and the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan entered into a binding agreement to invest in GEMS Education.
The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2024 and Bloomberg News reported the deal could be valued at US$2 billion, which would make this investment one of the biggest private equity deals in the Gulf region.
Founded by Sunny Varkey in 1959, this Dubai-based institution has grown to become one of the world’s largest providers of private K-12 education, educating 140,000 students.
