MALAYSIA: Dr Abdul Halim Ismail has passed away at the age of 85. In 1983, Dr Abdul Halim was appointed as the first managing director of Bank Islam, Malaysia’s pioneer Islamic bank, and is often dubbed ‘Father of Malaysian Islamic Banking’ as he played an important role in shaping the journey of Bank Islam as well as leaving a lasting impact on the development of Malaysia’s Islamic finance industry.
