INDIA: The controversial new Waqf bill was passed 128:95 on Friday, the 5th April 2025, in India’s upper Parliamentary House Rajya Sabha, after the lower Parliamentary House Lok Sabha cleared it a day earlier, with 288 members voting in support and 232 opposing. India’s President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday granted assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which had seen intense debates in both Houses. Droupadi also approved the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025.
