Company Profile

The Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA) is the independent regulator of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), established in 2005 in Doha by the Government of Qatar. Its primary role is to authorize, supervise, and regulate firms and individuals conducting financial services in or from the QFC, ensuring that the Centre operates to international standards and best practices. The QFCRA’s regulatory framework is principles-based and aligned with widely used common law, emphasizing transparency, predictability, and accountability.

QFCRA oversees a wide range of regulated activities, including banking, asset management, insurance, reinsurance, Islamic finance, investment consultancy, capital market vehicles, and more. It is responsible for maintaining the efficiency and integrity of Qatar’s financial sector, fostering trust in the QFC, and ensuring compliance with international standards, including robust anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations that align with European Union and FATF guidelines.

The Authority operates independently from the host Qatari legal system, with its own set of rulebooks, appeals body, and tribunal, ensuring objective, transparent, and fair oversight of the financial services industry within the QFC. QFCRA also works closely with the Qatar Central Bank and the Qatar Financial Markets Authority to promote financial stability and develop Qatar’s financial services sector as a regional and global hub.

In summary, the QFCRA plays a vital role in regulating and supporting the growth of Qatar’s financial services industry, providing a secure, internationally recognized regulatory environment for both domestic and international firms.
