Wahed launches two ethically screened ETFs

US: Wahed launched two new Ireland-domiciled ETFs – one tracking the S&P 500 Shariah Index and the other the Dow Jones Islamic Market International Titans 100 Index. These index-referencing funds are categorised as actively managed because the investment strategy will integrate traditional Shariah compliance with a proactive, Islamic values informed human-rights review of companies.

Beyond an internal review, the ethical filters applied for these two funds are drawn from:

  • the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Database,
  • American Friends Service Committee Investigate,
  • the UFLPA Entity List managed by the US Department of Homeland Security, which focuses on the Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act,
  • Kommunal Landspensjonskasse Gjensidig Forsikringsselskap (KLP) Council on Ethics – its exclusion list benchmark is used by Norway’s largest pension fund.
